You & Me: Dave Matthews Band

Check out Dave Matthews Band’s “You & Me” video premiere on Yahoo music

This is one of my favorite songs (amongst many many other favorites from DMB) from their newest album. They played them at the Gorge over Labor Day weekend. Love the lyrics!

Wanna pack your bags, Something small
Take what you need and we disappear
Without a trace we’ll be gone, gone
The moon and the stars can follow the car
and then when we get to the ocean
We gonna take a boat to the end of the world
All the way to the end of the world

Oh, and when the kids are old enough
We’re gonna teach them to fly

You and me together, we could do anything, Baby
You and me together yes, yes (x2)

You and I, we’re not tied to the ground
Not falling but rising like rolling around
Eyes closed above the rooftops
Eyes closed, we’re gonna spin through the stars
Our arms wide as the sky
We gonna ride the blue all the way to the end of the world
To the end of the world

Oh, and when the kids are old enough
We’re gonna teach them to fly

You and me together, we could do anything, Baby
You and me together yes, yes

We can always look back at what we did
All these memories of you and me baby
But right now it’s you and me forever girl
And you know we could do better than anything that we did
You know that you and me, we could do anything

You and me together, we could do anything, Baby
You and me together yeah, yeah
Two of us together, we could do anything, baby
You and me together yeah, yeah
Two of us together yeah, yeah
Two of us together, we could do anything, baby

to reach the end of the world

Black Eyed Peas – I Gotta Feeling

This song has been on the radio a lot (along with Boom Boom Pow). BEP is HOT lately. I was curious about the origin of its lyrics so was poking around wiki a bit. Haven’t figured out why yet but noticed some controversy about its MV, which I haven’t seen yet.

Turned out to be pretty interesting. The controversy is mainly around its inappropriateness. To me it looks like just another college party, and a crazy but fun one. In reality there will probably be involvement of rape, police, and kids jumping off the balcony.

The Fray – How To Save a Life

I like this song particularly because of the piano and the lyrics. I first heard of this song on Grey’s Anatomy, and it came in a very sad scene where Izzy’s fiance just died. Naturally I also associate this song to a very sad mood.

It’s very sad and is an almost unbearable feeling when you feel like a part of you have died. And you would wonder if you would ever feel or come back to life again.

In the end, those who stick around even during difficult times, those who still welcome you back into their arms with warm greetings, are your families and true friends.

Coldplay – Viva La Vida

I really like this song, the percussion, the strings, the poetic lyrics.

I used to rule the world
Seas would rise when I gave the word
Now in the morning I sleep alone
Sweep the streets I used to own

I used to roll the dice
Feel the fear in my enemy’s eyes
Listen as the crowd would sing
“Now the old king is dead! Long live the king!”

One minute I held the key
Next the walls were closed on me
And I discovered that my castles stand
Upon pillars of salt and pillars of sand

I hear Jerusalem bells a ringing
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror, my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field

For some reason I can’t explain
Once you go there was never
Never an honest word
And that was when I ruled the world

It was the wicked and wild wind
Blew down the doors to let me in
Shattered windows and the sound of drums
People couldn’t believe what I’d become

Revolutionaries wait
For my head on a silver plate
Just a puppet on a lonely string
Oh who would ever want to be king?

I hear Jerusalem bells a ringing
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror, my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field

For some reason I can’t explain
I know Saint Peter won’t call my name
Never an honest word
But that was when I ruled the world

I hear Jerusalem bells a ringing
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror, my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field

For some reason I can’t explain
I know Saint Peter won’t call my name
Never an honest word
But that was when I ruled the world

Flight of the Conchords

They are just so cute

My Take on Music

Currently enjoying Friday night Electro Box from c89.5. The radio station plays commercial-free non-stop dance music during the week and relinguishes awesome techno on Friday (and Saturday?) nights.

I’ve met lots of people who don’t understand/ appreciate techno, mostly because it doesn’t give a tune that they can sing to. Singing was never my thing, fidgetting is (maybe that’s why I like it). Techno is the kind of music that gives me headspace – when pressure is on and there’s too much going on in life that I’m overwhelmed, I like to turn up my techno music to put my mind into a trance mode and go on auto-pilot to get whatever needs to be done done.

Nonetheless, my music taste was never limited to any genre in particular. I was once a fan of a Japanese (Visual) rock band Glay for a few years, even though I never really understood any of the lyrics, I very much enjoyed the band music and the vocal’s voice. Then for a while I lingered around Sum41, Offsprings, Good Charlotte and Limp Bizkit. One of my current pandora stations is called “Jack, John and Dave”, stands for Jack Johnson, John Mayer and Dave Matthews and similar music with “mellow rock instrumentation, subtle use of vocal harmony, mild rhythmic syncopation, acoustic sonority and major key tonality” (according to Pandora). My car CD collection includes, Maksim, Savage Garden, Beyonce/ Destiny Child, Akhila’s Arabic Mix, Black Eyed Peas, sound track from Gone in 60 seconds, sound track from Tomb Raider, various Jay Chow albums, etc.

Anyways, just want to share what I enjoy:

Welcome to Miami – Will Smith

Every once in a while he’d sing a random phrase of ‘welcome to miami’. I never knew what it was, but the phrase stuck with me. So I decided to give youtube a try and realized that it’s a Will Smith song lol Have always knew Will Smith sort of had a singing phase along with his Fresh Prince of Bel Air

This is not too bad – the idea of Miami seems pretty good in this freezing Seattle weather

This song is now stuck in my head, will probably stay there for the rest of the day… ‘welcome to miami~’
